    Special Gold version

The box art for the special prize version given to players competing in the Family Computer Golf: U.S. Course competition.

Before the retail release of the game in Japan, a special gold cartridge version simply titled Punch-Out!! (パンチアウト!!) was given to 10,000 participants in a Family Computer Golf: U.S. Course competition. 5,000 copies were given to top players, another 1,000 was given away in a raffle for those who got a hole-in-one, and the remaining 4,000 copies were raffled to players who obtained a 1, 2, 4, or 9 and the end of their ranking.[1]

    Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!

2 months after the special gold version was released, the game would hit retail under the title Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!. The game first released in North America on October 18, 1987 followed by Japan on November 21, 1987 and in Europe on December 15, 1987. The game now features Mike Tyson as the final opponent instead of Super Macho Man.

    Punch Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream

Starting in August 1990, Nintendo began re-releasing Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! as simply Punch Out!! also known as Punch Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream in North America and Europe. The reason for the re-release was due to Nintendo's license with Mike Tyson expiring and Nintendo chose not to renew it and instead replaced Mike Tyson with the fictional character Mr. Dream. This version notably never saw a release outside of Japan most likely due to the game not selling well in the country. The Mr. Dream version would be used for future re-releases of the game including Virtual Console on Wii, 3DS, and Wii U, and on the Nintendo Switch Online service.
