Role-playing games (RPGs) is a genre of video game where the player takes control of the actions of a character or several characters in a defined immersed world. The roots of this genre date back to tabletop role playing games and many of the mechanics from these tabletop games moved over to video games. RPGs became extremely popular on the Famicom after the huge success of Dragon Quest leading to a bunch of clones and stand out titles releasing.
