The game plays as a side scrolling platformer. You play as an adventurer, named Wynn, armed with throwable dynamite. You start with 7 lives, but you die in one hit (with no continues). Wynn has a stiff jump and a constant movement speed (no running). You start in zone 1 and can traverse through many alternate routes and secrets to get to the final zone. These alternate paths are often cryptic and/or completely hidden (a map of alternate paths and secrets can be found [https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Atlantis_no_Nazo/Zone_Map here]). Throughout all 101 zones, you can encounter various enemies, which can usually be taken out with your dynamite. Zones get progressively harder, with later levels obscuring your view of the stage itself. Each zone also has a rather strict timer, a number counts down from 999 and once you run out of time in a zone you die.
