Lupin Sansei: Pandora no Isan (ルパン三世 パンドラの遺産, lit. Lupin III: Pandora's Legacy) is a side-scrolling action game developed by Tose and published by Namcot for the Family Computer on November 6, 1987 in Japan.
The game is based on the anime and manga franchise Lupin III and acts as a sequel to the 1979 film Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro.

Gameplay

The game follows the pursuits of Arsene Lupin III and his allies as they attempt to rescue Clarisse de Cagliostro, the damsel in distress from The Castle of Cagliostro, from a kidnapping.
The player can choose to play as either Lupin himself, or one of his two allies: Jigen, a stellar marksman, and Goemon, a skilled samurai. Each character has a different method of attack:

  • Lupin can shoot guns at a shorter distance.
  • Jigen can shoot guns at a longer distance.
  • Goemon is a melee attacker, using his sword to slash enemies.

The game is notably very difficult due to the game's four stages being very long, paired with the fact that the player can only take one hit per character. After a character is knocked out, they can be rescued from secret rooms in each level. Additionally, Inspector Zenigata will show up on occasion when no other enemies are on screen, and if he catches the player in the handcuffs he throws, then that character is "captured" and cannot be rescued until you complete the stage or game over.
