The Family Computer Disk System (ファミリーコンピュータ ディスクシステム), commonly abbreviated as Famicom Disk System (ファミコン ディスクシステム), is an add-on for the Family Computer manufactured and released by Nintendo on February 21, 1986 in Japan. The add-on uses magnetic disks known as Disk Cards as its storage media. The Disk System also added extra memory and an extra sound channel to the Famicom.
