F-Zero (エフゼロ) is a racing game developed and published by Nintendo. It released on the Super Famicom on November 21st, 1990 in Japan and on August 23, 1991 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in North America.
Gameplay
In F-Zero, players are given the task of beating computer-controlled opponents in a race in their futuristic driving machines. The player can drive four cars: the Blue Falcon, piloted by Captain Falcon; the Golden Fox, piloted by Dr. Stewart; the green Wild Goose, piloted by Pico; and the pink Fire Stingray, piloted by Samurai Goroh. Each of the cars has their own stats.
Each vehicle has a power meter, which is depleted by running into others, traps, or the sides of the fifteen racetracks. If the power meter is fully depleted, it explodes, and the game is over. The power meter can be replenished by driving over a green pit area on the home straight. Races consist of five laps each, and the player must finish before another racer every lap, or they lose. After every lap completed, a four-second boost is granted, though the player can only hold up to three at a time.
