Shooting games or Shooters are a type of action game characterized by the use of player-controlled weapons to defeat waves of enemies. These games are usually space and sci-fi themed, with aliens and space ships being a common sight in such games. Shooter games became very popular in Japan following the release of Space Invaders and Xevious, and shooter games quickly became a staple of the Famicom's library following ports of the aforementioned games and other arcade hits such as Galaxian and Star Force. This continued with the Super Famicom and beyond.
