    Gameplay

Similar to many other games in it's genre, Yoshi Island is a side-scrolling, two-dimensional platformer. The player controls eight Yoshis as they carry the infant Mario from level to level in search of his kidnapped brother. The Yoshis can ingest many enemies and some items, and sometimes will gain eggs that they can throw. Eggs defeat most enemies after throwing, as well as activate flying clouds, which either contain keys to progress the level, stars to increase Yoshi's life meter, or will manipulate the environment.
