List of Family Computer software

From FamiWiki

For the list of Family Computer Disk System software, see List of Family Computer Disk System software.

The Family Computer, also known as the Famicom.
A standard Nintendo manufactured Family Computer Cassette. Several publishers had their own cartridge variations.

This is a list of licensed software releases for the Family Computer video game console.

The Family Computer (or Famicom for short) initially released on July 13, 1983 in Japan. The console launched with arcade ports of Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., and Popeye. Shortly after the console's debut, Nintendo would allow third parties to publish games for the console with Hudson Soft releasing Lode Runner and Nuts & Milk on July 20, 1984. This ushered in the Famicom boom era with dozens of third party publishers releasing software for the console. Famicom software would continue to sell well up until the release of the successor console, the Super Famicom on November 21, 1990 in Japan. Software sales for Famicom would diminish not long after.

The final licensed software release for the console was Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima IV on June 24, 1994. A few months later the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation would release in Japan ushering in a new era of video games. Nintendo would discontinue support for the Family Computer, alongside the Super Famicom, on September 25, 2003 in Japan.

With the success of the Family Computer, Nintendo would redesign and release the console outside of Japan as the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America nationwide on September 27, 1986. Despite that, there were many software releases that never left Japan.

Datach Joint ROM System

The Datach Joint ROM System, also known as the Datach.

The Datach Joint ROM System was released by Bandai on December 29, 1992 only in Japan. The Family Computer addon came bundled with Dragon Ball Z: Gekitou Tenkaichi Budokai. The add-on allowed the use of smaller cartridges and having a card reading slot on the front of the adapter. Every release for the Datach was officially licensed by Nintendo as indicated by the Famicom Family logo.

The final Datach game to be released was J.League Super Top Players on April 22, 1994. Notably the game released 2 months before Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima IV hit store shelves, making it one of the last overall releases for the Famicom.

There are 7 software releases on this list.
